One free archiving tool that I've used before is Lhaplus (Japanese site). There are quite a few free tools that I've used and they all seem to be quite good. The only difference seems to be in usability.

My current project is giving me a pseudo extreme programming experience, as I spend a lot of time with a colleague trying to figure problems out and debug stuff on the fly. It's partially out of necessity as the colleague doesn't speak Japanese and most of the team doesn't speak that much English. I should read up on extreme programming points and try to apply them.
